Keeping a Field Journal
What to note: date, weather, habitat, route and observations make a useful page. Keep confirmed facts separate from questions to revisit.
How to note: short phrases, sketches or voice notes preserve the moment. Avoid interrupting observation and expand the notes during a rest stop.
Connect photographs: organise the day’s images and link them to times in your notes. Light and distance often explain more than equipment settings alone.
After returning: organise by themes rather than image counts. Keep uncertainty visible and remember moments when the camera stayed down.
